LEARNING OUTCOMES

🔵 🔴 🟡 Course description

The aim of the course is to present the historical, methodological and technological aspects of the field of video art through cases of artists (1960-present), exploring the great role of the field in the international contemporary scene as well as its evolution through the digital arts. It also aims to understand the impact of the camera as an expressive medium, moving image, sound, screen, and other multimedia/digital approaches to related art fields such as performance art, installations, conceptual art, and digital arts. The course attempts to shed light on the creative and artistic aspects of multimedia (video, sound, image, text, projection, screen, interaction), their experimental/poetic connections through the perception of visual characteristics, time, non-linear narration, text and physical gesture. This course aims to develop aesthetics and create artistic thinking with a multimedia/digital character, focusing on the conception and creation of artistic works in the practical part of the course.

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to

  • Analyze and understand the basic characteristics of the field of video art, the basic characteristics of multimedia (video, sound, text, image) and their relationship with space, time, body and technology

  • Apply audiovisual media in the composition and creation of an audiovisual artistic work of video art

  • Combine expanded methodologies with poetic and technological starting points in the creation of an audiovisual artistic work of video art

  • Organize the stages of conception and production of an audiovisual artistic work of video art

  3. Video Art: The Historical, Social and Technological Context in the 20th Century

  7. Video Art: Video poetry, allegory and text

EVALUATION

Review language: Greek

  • 50% artwork
  • 40% audiovisual exercises
  • 10% written analysis of the project

 Note: The most complete student works are selected for participation in curated screenings (curated by the instructor) of international video art / digital art festivals (Video Art Miden, ADAF, IFPA, etc.), thus strengthening the artistic portfolio of the students. Previous entries include Video Art Miden (2021), Athens Digital Arts Festival (2020), International Forum of Performance Art (2024)
